The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between extraversion and self-esteem. A total of seventy-one undergraduate psychology students from a private university were recruited for this study. The participants were asked to fill up two questionnaires in regards to extraversion and self-esteem which were the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The relationship between the two variables was statistically analyzed using the Pearson’s r correlational test. This study hypothesized that there is a positive correlation between extraversion and self-esteem. The results showed that extraversion had a non-significant relationship with self-esteem thus failing to reject the null hypothesis.

Self-esteem is also believed to be the judgement of a person’s self that includes their self worth and importance (Mutlu, Balbag, & Cemrek, 2010). In addition, it depends on the individuals attitude in they view themselves as an individual and other areas of their life influence the development of self-esteem . Self-esteem is said to be dependent on a person’s confidence and contentment of one’s skills and capabilities which is achieved through personal achievements (Kalyani, 2014). Some factors that play a role in the development of self-esteem is family members, school environment and friends (Kalyani, 2014).
Past studies by Trzesniewski, Donnellan, Moffitt, Robins, Poulton and Caspi (2006) show that individuals during adolescence that have high self-esteem are reported to have a low self-destructive behaviour while low self-esteem has the opposite outcome of it (as cited in Kalyani, 2014). Since self-esteem reflects how an individual perceives themselves and when they have a negative perception of themselves it is know n as having low self-esteem. This may lead to the individual to feel down about themselves and may lead to developing depressive disorders (Kalyani,
