Project Task 1: Express Books Intellectual Property Policy
1 Purpose
The purpose of the Express Books Intellectual Property Policy is to provide a guide that will allow the successful management of any intellectual property concerns Express Books might have. It provides information and rules that will help decide how to protect existing intellectual property owned by Express Books and to encourage and protect the creation of new intellectual property.
2 Scope
This policy applies to all staff who work for or are contracted to do work for Express Books, including but not limited to:
• Part-time/Full-time staff
• Third party contractors
• Volunteers

Third party contractors: Any company or person who is contracted by Express Books to perform work for Express Books, either permanently or for a fixed term.
Volunteers: Any staff member of person who performs work for Express Books, who receives no remuneration and volunteers their time freely.
Intellectual Property: property that is intangible and is the creation of creativity
Copyright: an exclusive legal right given to the original creator of something that can be copied
Website: a location connected to the internet that provides one or more web pages
Product Delivery System: a system/process that is used to deliver a product to a customer
Stock Management System: a system/process that is used to manage product stock levels
Management Processes: processes that are used in regards to the management of the business
4 Objectives
The objectives of this policy are to:
• Protect the intellectual property of Express Books
• Provide details as to the ownership of intellectual property of staff and/or third party contractors of Express Books

5.2 Determining of Ownership
5.2.1 Part-Time/Full-Time Employees of Express Books
All existing or future intellectual property or content created by Express Books employees that is created in the course of their work as employees of Express Books is to be owned by Express Books, unless agreed upon otherwise.
Intellectual property or content created in the employee’s own time outside of Express Books will remain the property of the employee.
All employees must sign an Intellectual Property Agreement as part of their acceptance of employment at Express Books.
5.2.2 Third-party Contractors hired by Express Books
Third-party contractors are not employees of Express Books and as such are not subject to the rules applied to employees. As such specific arrangements will need to be made with each third-party contractor as to who owns the intellectual property created during the term of the
