Because people would show off their riches, threw parties and get togethers. The number of millionaires in the nineteen-twenties increased by four hundred percent for the past decade. People would buy everything they wanted. They would buy everything, because they had the money to be able to buy everything they ever wanted. Another valid point is that The American Dream was severely affected by the economy. Because at the time, it was all about the money. And if the American Dream was to have all the money. The rich would get all the money, and the poor wouldn’t get any. This is what made a gap in the social class between high class, and low class. More, and more people become rich, because of inheriting.The Great Gatsby showed that technology came to the rich, and affected society as a whole. People would want to have fun, by going to parties. They would also dress in different outfits, even different from before. In addition, many different ideas came from the nineteen-twenties. Many people couldn’t keep up with the new technology that was quickly approaching. For many people it was very confusing times. People wanted the future, but they wanted to stay the way they were. No-one could decide on whether to keep on going with the new technology, or stay with the old.
The American Dream was affected by many dissimilar ideas. Seen by the Ku Klux Klan, that affected the American Dream. Because of their violent acts, were they doing it because they wanted to be happy in the American Dream, or just to resist society as a hole. In The Great Gatsby it is shown that The rich have all the new technology. And the poor have all the old technology.
