Living in any country with no job is nearly impossible and it is even twice as hard to compete with the big population of people in the United States. Finding and holding a job is incredibly important in order to provide all of the necessities of life and better each person’s standard of living. One of the main conflicts with this process is not being able to get a job because of racial or ethnic disadvantages, which is a problem many minorities face. Anytime an applicant is denied a job or benefits of job because of his or her ethnic background is an example of this issue. Today, there are still people who are fired simply because of their race (Canady 42). Not allowing certain groups to work is increasing the financial gap within society which is actually damaging the whole country. The segregation of income between minorities and whites increases the overall amount of poverty in America (Long 18). Thus by slowing down the attempt from minorities to decrease this financial gap, we are reinforcing the ideology of the 1% and making it even harder for the middle class to grow. Today, it is becoming increasingly more competitive when applying for jobs and it is harder to do so without a college education. While applying, and attending, college is already difficult enough, the cost of college is also dramatically increasing, making it harder and harder for lower classes to attend. In many cases, the cost of education is the main decider in whether someone goes to college or not and affects how well, if at all, of an education they receive. In today’s society, many aspects of success are directly affected by the level of education you have received. These deciding factors contribute to the advantages and disadvantages people have and may positively, or negatively, influence their likelihood of being successful. According to Christopher Long, Liberal policies continue to make it increasingly more challenging for minorities to succeed (25). From an educational viewpoint, one of the main policies that are implemented is preferences and quotas. Even today, many colleges turn down students not because of their qualifications, but because they have to make room for other students of a specific racial or ethnic background just to meet their quota. These preferences are made by the government in order to ‘help’ the minorities by aiding in their application processes and ensuring the number of minorities in college increases. This process is unjust because
