Formerly, family members were the ones who taught children how to mingle and behave in appropriate settings. Home and school were together as one; in addition, children intelligent were shape by their guardians, relatives, and the community they lived in. However, throughout the years, schools and communities practices have increased significantly. In the education field, this is known as collaboration. One can see that the tradition of teacher and parent communication has not faded away. The learning environment in which a student achieves success is one that supports the child. If the children don’t have the support needed at home it becomes difficult for them to continue to have success in school. The problem is that if there is no collaboration between parents and the school the breakdown might bring about issues in learning. If the parents put the expectations on the child then the child will work that much harder to work towards rewards in literacy and achievements in school. In other words, parents are factors of motivation in a child’s educational achievements. It is the teacher’s job to educate and the parents job to motivate their children. For example, stating that speaking Spanish at home will have problems learning English because they will only hear English in the Classroom. Once they get home, they speak their home language and aren’t challenged to continue practicing the English language. However, it is not a bad thing to speak Spanish at home. Parents should act as motivators for their children to continue an education. In my opinion, all educators should just get to know their students. Getting to know where a student is coming from will help understand their purpose. This will help make connection with the student and build a sense of community toward the classroom. Not only that but, obtaining these funds of knowledge will make the teacher more aware of potential situation that may put the students at risk of feeling unmotivated.
