Was exploiting minorities and racism simply apart of human nature? The good news is it is not. Racism is oppression. Which results from discrimination against people based on believing that characteristics such as skin color makes one inferior to the oppressor. These concepts about race are nothing but myths, invented by people. They have come to be apart of the dominant ideology of society since the beginning of the slave trade (Selfa, 2010). This racist ideology has since been refashioned to justify certain imperialists’ conquests at the turn of the last century. With many world powers looking for low cost materials and labor, racism became a rationale. Many of the people today are portrayed and viewed as inferior because of their race. Even though slavery is gone, racism sill exists as a way to justify the domination of people. New forms of racism seem to change along with capitalism. As the U.S has expanded and laid the foundation for imperial expansion and racism, it assertions developed about the U.S having “right” to take control over other people, like Mexicans and Filipinos.
