This led to May 4th of 1970 but it didn't just happen there were many things that led to the incident of 1970. This bloody incident shocked America and further divided the nation in two. (FOOTNOTE INSERT) Newsweekly a newspaper company reported on May 18 of 1970 that the May 4th incident was dividing the country. "The shots fired at Kent State were taken by some as a warning that the U.S. might be edging towards the brink of warfare of sorts on the home front". (FOOTNOTE INSERT) The events that lead to this bloody massacre began with Nixon's decision to expand the Vietnam War into Cambodia, which in turn led to nation wide protest in colleges including Kent State. No one really knows who did this but people assume it was protesters seeing as they were cheering on the fire and trying to stop firemen from putting out the fire. All of these events led to the kent state shooting, which no one knows who started it and why they did all we know is that 9 got injured and 4 died. The Kent State shooting cause massive strikes amongst students in colleges around the U.S. Many Americans were angered by the fact that the guardsmen fired at the college students and this made them want to hurt the guardsmen because they realized that the guardsmen had live ammo and not dummy rounds.
