The first major conflict that led to the Civil War were the economic and social differences between the north and the south. The economy in the north was built on manufacturing of textiles. In the north textiles were mass produced in factories. In the north many people made a living working in the factories. Many people that lived in the north though that slavery was wrong. There were several separate conflicts that added together to create one large conflict known as the fight over slavery in the new states. The first was the Kansas and Nebraska Act. In the Kansas Nebraska act the federal government said the new territories could decide if they wanted slavery by voting, this was also called popular sovereignty. This angered some people because it went against the Missouri compromise, which is how slave and free states were decided before. The next conflict was known as Bleeding Kansas. In this conflict men from Missouri came to Kansas with their guns drawn and voted for Kansas to become a slave state. When Kansas became a free state they also passed several pro-slavery acts. The made the mainly abolitionist state of Kansas very mad. The final conflict was the Jayhawks vs. the Bushwackers. In this conflict the Bushwackers from Missouri who were pro slavery attacked and pillaged the town of Lawrence Kansas. This is when the Jayhawks from kansas who were against slavery fought them
