“Tweeting”,”uploading”, and “posting” has become popular terminology in the mouths of human beings all around the world. With the help of smartphones, tablets, and the internet, social media sites have been on a rise. But the rise may also raise concerns. Social sites have many pros, but with every pro comes a con. For instance, more and more homosexuals look at social sites such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook as a way to express themselves and speak openly about the problems society has given them. They address the labels or stereotypes, and inform others about how it is okay to be gay. “This helps wipe out homophobes and gain acceptance within society,” states the article “Is Social Networking a Good Thing?” (Par.16). By educating the public about all the social stigmas out there, we are creating a more understanding world. Without the help of social networks these issues would remain hidden. Since social media sites are proven to have an exceptional way of spreading info, they also have been known for uplifting peoples lives. This can cause misconception too many people, and poor outcomes may occur. On Sep. 5, 2012 false rumors of fires, shootouts, and caravans of gunmen in a Mexico City suburb spread via Twitter and Facebook and caused panic. It resulted in flooding the local police department with over 3,000 phone calls, and temporarily closing schools.
