According to the United States Census Bureau, individuals achieve the following degree levels earned the following median annual salaries: PhD’s, $100,000 or more; master’s, $63,000; bachelor’s, $55,700; associate’s, $42,000; high school diploma, $32,500 (“College Atlas”, 1). There are many reasons why this is so, but one of the many is discipline. Discipline is learned in college because professors are not always going to tell you what is due and when it is due. Therefore you have to be in control of your schedule and how you are going to get all of the work done and completed on time. Most economists believe that pay is related to productivity, which in turn is based on workers’ skill levels—thus that the rising baccalaureate premium reflects the importance of skills learned in college (“Stephen”, 27). People don’t have to earn a bachelor 's degree to automatically make more money, an associate 's degree can help achieve that as well. There is strong evidence that associate 's degrees and years of community college education yield extra earnings compared to high school graduation. There is also evidence that vocational certificates and basic credits contribute positively to subsequent earnings (“Belfield”, 11). As a result the cause of a higher level of education can lead to the effect of a more economically stable life, as well as other benefits such as confidence and security in oneself. College is meant to be challenging because in the long run it shows the amount of effort that someone is willing to make into becoming a better person and helping improve themselves and even the community and if extremely successful can even change the society or the world as a whole. It can also ensure a more secure future for the future of those who pursue a higher level of education. College opens up so many doors for those who are willing to give it a shot. We continue to grow and learn throughout our whole lives so why not at least have a degree to prove
