People already use computers for everything and pretty much the whole world around them is built with some kind of computer in use. For example, when family goes to eat at Burger King these days, there is this “smart” soda machine, with just one touch screen display and one button, they are able to create one of millions of variations of drink. So, not only teachers have to know how to use computers, but also the kids. Most children, or the ones who have laptop, tablet or smart phone at home, come to school already prepared and have the knowledge of how to use mouse, keyboard and the tablet. It is a fact that most of the kids these days know how to work on computer more than their parents. Some of the middle and high school students are even introduced to the 3D modeling and gaming software, video and picture editing tools. There are tons of software developed to help kids in Kindergarten and 1st grade with reading, writing and math. Many companies develop software for little kids, where the content is colorful, fun and entertaining for the little guys. In some researchers opinion though, this kind of software is just distracting and numbing the children’s ability to learn on their own and develop their learning process (Kazanci and Zuhal). Kazanci and Zuhal, authors of article “Evaluating English Language Teaching Software For Kids: Education Or Entertainment Or Both?", made their research on eight main points - pointless, nonstandard, robotic, glib, static, disneyfied, flashy and empty. According to the data they collected the material used in the software wasn’t at all similar to the regular curriculum nor approved on 100% by the state, government or educational system. Also the software is created so the children will follow instructions and they won’t have to use any of their originality or some level of thinking. The activities are empty and the main purpose is so kids can just skim through it and just do whatever the computer tells them.
