Chapter One: Awake
“Morning!” Dad says to Mom.
“Morning,” Mom says to Dad. “Brrr, it’s cold down here.” Mom shivers.
“I’ll turn on the fire,” Dad whispers.
“Dad, Dad! It’s sooo cold upstairs!” Lilly whines.
“Lilly, you woke me up,” Jack yawns.
“Sorry, Jack.”
“Hey, honey, come here.”
“What is it?” Mom asks.
“I can’t turn on the fire!”
“Well, then turn on the heat,” Mom says.
“But, Mom, I want the fire on, please, please, please!” Lilly cries.
“I can’t, I’m sorry, honey,” says Dad.
“Lilly, what do you want for breakfast?” Jack asks.
“It’s okay, Jack, I’ll make breakfast,” Mom says.
“Pancakes! Mom, I want pancakes!” Lilly yells out.
“Okay, okay, I’ll make pancakes,” Mom agrees.
“Yay! High-five, Jack.”
“Okay.”
“Yum! That was sooo good!” Lilly yells. “Now, Jack, let’s go outside and play,” Lilly suggests. …show more content…
“Mom, Dad, we are going to the park!” Lilly tells Mom and Dad.
“Okay, bye!” Mom says.
“Let’s go play, Jack,” Lilly says.
“Okay, fine,” Jack says. . . .
“Wait, is that the sun going away?” Lilly asks Jack.
“Um, I don’t know. Let’s go home right now,” Jack says, in a worried voice.
“Okay, you’re right, let’s go,” Lilly agrees. . . .
“Mom, Mom!” Lilly cries.
“What’s wrong?” Mom asks, concerned.
“The sun’s going away!”
“But that’s impossible,” Mom says.
“No, it’s not.”
