My parents’ hardships were not as drastic as Enrique’s Mother, Lourdes. But my parents did struggle. We didn’t come with much money into the United States and we had to make ends meet. I never had an issue with this because again I was not old enough to actually remember or experience the hardship. I really appreciate how the author creates the story of Enrique’s “journey”. He nicely sets the scene with the first chapter “the Boy Left Behind”. It gives meaning for the journey and makes the reader feel for Enrique and what he is going through. It is amazing with all the bad things that have happened in Enrique’s life and his mother life that they still have faith in each other and have so much perseverance in life. I try to implement the word perseverance in my life. I feel that when obstacles get in my way I should push on and still try to achieve my goals. I honestly have to say it was extremely interesting and how Enrique’s Journey is extremely extensive and the amount of hardships he has to faces. I noticed how one person’s actions can affect and influence others. Immigration is a big thing for minorities. Since I am a minority, my parents as well as my sister migrated over to the United States before I was born. I never really had to deal with the hardships my family had to face moving here since I was of a young age or I was not born yet. My parents and my sister always remind how hard it was for them to move here and adjust to a new culture. It was hard for my mom to make Indian food here at first since we were not familiar with the areas and the grocery stores. My mom had a really difficult time adjusting to the American culture.
