In 1054, there was a schism/split between the Roman church (Carnine 62). This was caused by the different beliefs between the popes in the church such as icons (Carnine 62). Icons are a part of new innovations over time because they are still used today to represent words or expressions such as the apple on iphones. This represents the company and the product. “In 730, the Byzantine emperor Leo III banned the use of icons. Icons are religious images used by Eastern Christians to aid their prayers” (Carnine 62). The Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox church embrace many of the same principles of the Christianity religion (Carnine 62). The religion was led by a pope who was also ruled over the partrich/the leader of the Orthodox church (Carnine 62). The church was also under the authority of the pope (Carnine 62). The pope affects new innovations over time because there is still a pope in the catholic religion today. “The Patriarch of Constantinople has the honor of primacy, but does not carry the same authority as the Pope does in Catholicism” (The Eastern Orthodox, 1). The Christians in the Orthodox had great importance for the bible (The Eastern Orthodox Church, 1). The Bible affects new innovations over time because people still use the bible today for their religious purposes (The Eastern Orthodox Church, 1). Christ plays an important role in the Orthodox worship, he is known as a spirit (The Eastern Orthodox Church, 1). For Orthodox christians, truth must be experienced personally (The Eastern Orthodox Church, 1). The Eastern churches connect to religious truth differently than the western
