Has the War on Drugs Been Successful?
Despite of the large amount of money spent on the war to fight drugs, Americans have not been successful. The focus of the war on drugs was to fight the crimes against drugs instead of trying to prevent the problem. As many know, crime prevention may take time, it is not something that happens automatically. The Americans have heard from their president that he will eliminate the drug problem, but it has not been successful. Plain and simple, Americans can’t battle the war on drugs from the stand point society is seeking to accomplish.

The increase is due to strict penalties associated with the crimes of having the substance in one’s possession. That is a major chuck of society behind bars just for drug possession alone. America has overcrowded facilities within the past decade for drug charges alone. Society has incarcerated these people for the minor offenses, which has left many unable to obtain employment due the charges on the background. This will allow Americans to keep their jobs, and reduce the rate of incarceration. Through this choice of method society has made a positive step away from the war on drugs. Society knows that decriminalizing drugs will be cost sufficient. Allowing recreational use, which is personal consumption, to be fined, is what best. With all the strict drug laws, employers should implement many policies in the workplace to keep a drug free environment. Everyone who has to take a drug test to either start work or is given them randomly learns their job is not as secure as they may think. Many who use drugs recreationally or personally will fall into categories that will just about get them fired or developed a record that is
