Few have escaped it. Some of been able to run far, but only the lucky can get away.
Maybe it was the way they were raised, maybe the way the trained themselves. But this is for sure and for certain, and everyone who goes to college has to face it. So what is this dreaded thing everyone is terrified of when they leave high school? The freshman fifteen. Seventy percent of freshman gain weight in their first year of college. Some gain ten, some fifty but the average is fifteen.
Everyone I know has gained a certain amount of weight in their first year of college, but why is this? The reason freshman, and college students gain weight during their long hard haul at school, is because of stress and how they allow stress to …show more content…
These stressors are called acute time-limited stressors, brief naturalistic stressors, stressful event sequences, chronic stressors, and distant stressors. They all play a vital role in how our immune system is damaged and changed while stressed (Stress and Hormones.)
The acute time-limited stressor is described as “public speaking or mental arithmetic”
(Psychology and Stress.) These different types of stressors do not last for a very long time depending on the event a person is participating in. Rather they are helpful in showing someone how, and then assisting them in succeeding and finishing their task.
Brief naturalistic stressors involve the challenges in the day to day life. This stressor has been found to have the most impact on our immune systems and our bodies. Also studies have shown
Beel 5 that this is the leading cause of death when it comes to how stress affects the human body, and brings up diseases. The reason is because the stress from everyday challenges is a lot more consistent than any other kind of stress that we face. Therefore our immune systems tend to be exposed more often than not to help us deal with our daily worries, anxieties, and …show more content…
An example of this would be-being assaulted or sexually abused as a child, an abusive relationship, or being in and having bad experiences in foster care. These things affect your immune system because of their “long lasting cognitive and emotional sequelae” (Psychology and Stress).
This distant stressor is also very closely related to the brief naturalistic stressor because the situations that someone maybe experienced in their past that caused them to be stressed, they may tend to experience a similar stress in their daily life. Because of the things that affect your day to day life, this stressor is also not good for the immune system to experience on a daily
Beel 6 basis. It can cause someone to experience anxiety, depression, fear, and stress depending on the situation they experienced in their past.
Not only are these facts supported by evidence from books, articles, and research but also can be accounted for in a person’s day to day life. The 5 different types of stressors have affected all of our lives in one way or another. And not only do these stressors affect the lives of
