Well-known author and poet, Edgar Allan Poe, was born January 19, 1809, and died October 7, 1849, at age 40. Poe has many different works that vary from dreary short stories to dismal poems. Some may say that his stories were inspired by tragic life events he had went through. Poe’s mother, his wife, and his foster mother, have all passed away from tuberculosis, which could have led to the dark mood and deaths in many of Poe’s stories and poems, which has also led to many of the similarities in all of his writings. “Annabel Lee,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” and “The Fall the House of Usher” are just some of the works where Poe’s writing style is evident.…

The poem’s rhyme scheme begins simply with an ababcb pattern but gets more complicated as the poem progresses, repeating rhymes within a line (known as internal rhyme) and ending with the pattern abcbddbb in the last stanza(cite). The repeated use of the end rhymes “sea,” “Lee,” “we,” and “me” offer a link from stanza to stanza throughout the poem (Shmoop Editorial Team). Repetition of key words within lines gives the poem its pleasing sound while at the same time emphasizing main ideas. For example, in line 1, “many and many” establishes the fact that a long period of time has elapsed since the speaker began mourning, an important fact to recognize if the reader is to understand the extent of the speaker’s grief. The name “Annabel Lee” appears at least once in every stanza, and the phrase “kingdom by the sea” also appears frequently, adding to the unified…

    Myth And Music Analysis

While there are quite a few similarities between music and myth, the differences in articulation enable music to connect a society through the physical senses. Both myth and music are bound by the “temporal requirement of perception, the necessity to listen to the whole myth or composition, the impossibility of stepping outside of the stream of mythological narration or music without loss of the context” (Kozel 2016: 4). Myth and music are symbolic and audible images, respectively, that are composed and performed as a whole, and are transformed into meaningful images through the archetypes recognizable to the audience’s social realities. Archetypes, “as organs of a psychoid…nature, represent a constitutive part of the human” (ibid.: 7). When…

After reading and analysing these passages, us as the reader can see that they are two poems on to different sides of a spectrum, with two completely different opinions on Helen. In Edgar Allan Poe's poem Helen is a very beautiful woman, Angelic even, she makes people feel safe and where they belong. We know this because Poe is comparing her to a ship, “Nicean barks of yore”, he clarifies this in lines 3-5 when he says “gently”, “bore”, and “weary way-worn wanderer”. Poe is not comparing her to the ship itself but to where the ship will take the tired warrior, and that is his home or “native shores”, home being a warm welcoming place. Helen is expressed as beautiful and angelic in stanza two and three, in stanza two Poe talks about her beautiful hair and face, comparing her to a hyacinth flower.…
