Manufacturing goods using machinery and technological advanced ways became the primary means of production. In order to move forward to a modernized economy, the Industrial Revolution was necessary and many people supported the new system. One of the major supporters of the Industrial Revolution was Andrew Ure. Andrew Ure described the importance and the benefits of the Industrial Revolution on his document “The Philosophy of Manufacturers”. The Industrial Revolution was a beginning of a new era. Many factories and manufacturing institutions were being created and in order to manufacture goods a lot of workers were needed. During this revolution women got a chance to work. Majority of females were working on textile institutions, however some women were unlucky enough to work in coal mines, where working conditions were mediocre and overall it was dangerous. Women were degraded by their “owners” - employers and often abused and raped. According to “Young Miners Testify to the Ashley Commission” many people regardless of their age or gender were forced to work in mediocre conditions.
