This is when a child asks their parents for a certain item and they say no. They will continue to nag them until the parents give in. They even sometimes they don’t. So pester power is a kids best friend when wanting a certain product. There are two different types of nagging. First is persistence nagging which is there’s no need for the product they just keep asking. Then there is importance nagging which is they give an answer to why they wanted that certain product. In my opinion most kids use persistence nagging. They never really give a response except that they just want it. Susan found that researchers at Western International Media divided parents into categories that helps corporations encourage nagging within children. Indulgers are parents who give in to their child. Kid pals are parents who want to fun like their children. Conflicted which are single or divorced parents who give in to guilt. Then last is bare necessities are parents who can control themselves and not give into their child’s nagging. It is important for a parent to lookout for their child and know what’s best for them. It’s a shame that marketers use children as “bait” because they know they will do anything to have what they want. They target children because they are easy targets. Marketers needs to think about a child’s needs and not just think about themselves and to make money. They are the cause of a child’s nagging their parents and also child obesity. Yes, a parent can help prevent child obesity and the nagging but it is hard because when they want something they don’t usually stop until they get it.
This book has taught me a lot about how marketers target children and how it should be prevented. Some topics in the book are ones that have always bothered me when it comes to children. I feel that marketers target children in a bad way. They made a child not want to be active and just want to be inside all of the time. They even how a child making bad food choices to where they might become obese. I truly agree with majority of what Susan is talking about in the
