Catholics and Protestants believe that becoming like Christ is a result of salvation, meaning that as long as you love God and listen and obey the commandments you will go to heaven and end up becoming like Christ. Orthodox Christians believe that in order to reach salvation, you have to first become like Jesus. This means that if you want to go to heaven, you have to follow the rules, word for word. Orthodoxy is notoriously strict. They have a billion rules, one example is that women are not allowed near the altar because menstruation makes them unclean. They believe that there are 3 separate persons in the Holy Trinity, but they are all equal. The equivalents to the Pope in the Orthodoxy religion would be the bishops and patriarchs. They have supreme authority over their groups. Priests are allowed to marry and divorce but only other certain conditions (one of my mom’s uncles is a priest and he is married). The Orthodox Church accepts homosexual people but does not accept homosexual actions. They believe that God will not punish homosexual persons as long as they do not engage in homosexual
