Early Childhood Caries can affect the quality of not only the child but the parent’s life. Children can suffer from the pain of dental illnesses and painful dental treatments. This does not stop cavities around the restored teeth. Within the first year of dental surgery, 40 percent of the time dental decay will recur. Dentists are more likely to find prevention instead of restoration as the best method of treatment. For dental caries in primary dentition it is better to slow or stop the cavity process instead of having surgical treatment. If surgical treatment is needed micro restorative surgery should be used for adhesion and restoration of a tooth (Kawashita 4).
Early Childhood Caries can lead to dental caries on permanent dentition (Kawashita 1). When primary teeth with dental caries need to be extracted, alignment of the permanent dentition can affected, which can lead to trouble chewing and speaking (Kagihara 2). Removing a tooth too early can cause the natural aligned space left for the permanent tooth to shift out of place and malocclusion can occur. Losing primary teeth can cause gastro-intestinal disorders, appearance, and psychological problems (Bagramian, Garcia-Godoy, and Volpe
