E-learning context and Learning theories
1.1 E-learning Context : The partnership between graphic design and Industrial design.
The field of instructional design has always fascinated me. I feel that it has great potential with the immersion of technology; we can continue to change how we embark on the new approach in e-learning. As a graphic designer by profession, I highly think graphic design goes hand in hand with Instructional Design. I have made contents like graphics, videos and animation for a couple of courses but have not fully understood the academic side of it. By learning the academic side and technical side of things, I am not just creating pretty graphics but making it to be of substance which is one …show more content…
Teaching presence in an online learning environment the teacher is dependent on how well the course is designed and how well it effectively utilize teaching tools. I would prepare visually engaging materials; I would facilitate discussions and forums to challenge the learners to continuously look for answers. I believe, regardless of what platform or approach a teacher considers to use it is the content that he/she presents to the students that matters.
2.b Learning theory: Salmon’s five-stage model of e-learning
Gilly Salmon’s five-stage model of e-learning has been created and adapted in reference to online distance learning. Salmon states 5 key stages and it speaks of the role of the learner and the facilitator’s role[}|| on each of them.
I found that Stage 4: Knowledge construction and Stage 5: Development as the two key points to my learning experience.
Stage 4: Knowledge construction
The first 3 stages of Salmon’s model helped built its way up to this stage. For me this is the most important part of learning. The facilitator 's job is to encourage the learners to participate in the activities, share their experiences, generate and exchange ideas and ask questions. This is where learners and facilitators interact and learn from each other and completing their learning
