“Hypocrisy is the mother of all evil and racial prejudice is still her favorite child.” (Don King)
Us citizens of the United States take great pride in how diverse and accepting our country is. We often praise the fact that our society has progressed as a whole in terms of race. “We have freed the slaves” they say, “We have created a melting pot country” they say, “We have a black president” they say. But these are just covers; blankets over real life America. Hypocrisy in this country is truly evil, and can lead to neighbors and friends turning against each other. But this truly is a ridiculous statement, and goes against the Constitution. Our government is not allowed to pass “law[s] respecting an establishment, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” and to do so would be unconstitutional. For a country that prides itself on the freedoms they provide to their citizens, this behavior for officials and reporters was unacceptable (First Amendment). This goes to show how unaccepting our citizens have become. Muslims everywhere, most being law abiding citizens, found themselves in a media frenzy that should have been directed towards radical terrorist groups. This hypocritical nature is why we cannot truly progress as a society, and white supremacists’ beliefs stand tall over us, waving their banners for everyone to see. Kids should not grow up in America with all these stereotypes running rampant. Do we want our future generation to believe all Muslims are in ISIS, all whites are involved with the KKK, and all Nigerians stand with Boko Haram? We must abandon this hypocritical mindset, where racial prejudice is the first thing that comes to mind when someone is different. Otherwise, our future will consist of segregated societies and constant warfare, something no one should live
