There are 2 main categories as well as different types of dwarfism that have similarities and differences. You have dwarfs whose bodies are either proportionate or disproportionate. Proportionate dwarfism is when the body parts of a dwarf are of the same size and same degree but shortened. The main cause of proportionate dwarfism is the lack of bone growth in the body during birth or early childhood. Disproportionate dwarfism is simply the complete opposite of proportionate dwarfism. This type of dwarfism is when some body parts are small when others are of average size or above average size. The main cause of disproportionate dwarfism is the lack of bone growth within the body, just like proportionate dwarfism. You normally can tell if the body is disproportionate at birth. During research I found that there are a lot more dwarfs disproportionate versus proportionate in the world. The lack of bone growth, which is common in both proportionate and disproportionate dwarfism, is caused when the pituitary gland fails to produce a decent amount supply of growth hormone, which is essential for normal childhood growth. A lot of dwarfism-related conditions are caused by genetic disorders within the creating of the child, but causes of some disorders are unknown. Dwarfism results from a random genetic mutation in either the sperm from the father or the egg from the mother. Dwarfism can also be caused by metabolic or hormonal disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, pituitary gland disorder, absorptive problems, and kidney disease. All of these causes can lead to dwarfism if the child fails to grow at a normal rate. These causes of dwarfism have a negative effect on the body because it stops or eliminates the body from growing to its full potential, which ultimately leads to the person having a short stature. It can bring a delay on some motor skills, just for the simple fact they cannot get the full range of motion. It also can bring breathing problems because they will have normal size lungs in such a small body is it would be extremely different to be able to receive oxygen. Dwarfs having a short stature can also lead to curvatum of the spine, more frequent ear infections, and possibly loss of hearing.
