Managers vs Leaders, are they really different?
Introduction
Individuals may assume as all managers are leaders, however that is not right subsequent, the reason being that some managers may not practice leadership qualities and a few individuals lead without having any management skills. Consequently, there is a proceeding debate about the contrast between managers and leaders. Researchers argues that even though leaders and managers have certain similarities, both the functions are not identical (Bass, 2010). Moreover, the level of similarities is a state of contradiction. In fact, some individuals consider them as great opposites, people consider that a good manager can’t be a good leader and vice versa (Yukl, 1989).

It is often hard to observe the contrasts between leaders and managers as individuals frequently own both leadership and management qualities. In today’s world, according to situations, people use leadership abilities or management qualities and at times a combination of both traits. Though, there are inconspicuous dissimilarities by which we would be able to distinguish between leadership and management.
At the same time, however, not all good managers are necessarily good leaders and not all good leaders are good managers.
The potentials, aptitude sets and identities that makes up good leaders are often not similar from that of managers. For instance, leaders should be capable of leading individuals whereas managers must be goal oriented in order to make right business choices. Managers are more concerned about planning, controlling, staffing and organizing. Leaders are more concerned about directing and organizing people. They act more as a representative of the followers. People follow leaders voluntarily than by virtue of their position. Leaders should have high emotional intelligence. In Emergency Medical Service leadership qualities are more sought after than mere management skills. Managers with good leadership skills can produce best result.
