Equal Opportunity policies “mean freedom from discrimination on the basis of protected classes such as race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability or genetic information” (SFHRM). The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and its state counterparts enforce Equal Opportunity in the workplace. These policies give everyone a fair playing field when it comes to employment or promotion chances. Certain groups are not pursued, instead, those under consideration are given the same scrutiny as any other person would receive. Everyone is put into consideration, no matter who the person is.

While institutions would deny it, race and sex do make an impression. Specifically, with minorities. Because of stereotypes, certain stigmas are attached to certain minority groups. Reverse discrimination claims are nonsensical and have no base. Claiming that the white majority is being discriminated against is almost laughable. While they may be bumped down the list in favor of a more diverse option, they can go almost anywhere and not face discrimination. For example, blacks cannot do this because of stereotypes attached to them. The discrimination that still exists today is founded off of past laws and past discriminatory practices. Historically black colleges and universities were established because of segregation and discrimination in higher education. Whites believing that they may not be chosen over another only based on race is a folly. The white majority will always have more opportunities than minority groups. Giving minority groups equal chances to go to certain schools or to work at certain places, this is an imperative thing, otherwise the predominantly white spaces would be even more
