Basically, it is the degree of mobility between social strata. For social mobility of Taiwan, Taiwan is a modern consumer society in which status is measured by wealth and marked by the commodities one can afford to buy, such as automobiles, clothes, and homes, as well as one's lifestyle. A person can live very cheaply in the countryside in a modest apartment, buying produce from an outdoor market, eating at street stands, and transporting a family of five on a scooter. One also can own a large condominium on a prestigious avenue in Taipei, eat in expensive restaurants, wear Western brand-name clothes, and ride in cabs or a chauffeured Mercedes. In Taiwan, their national language is Mandarin. But still, majority of Taiwanese are also speaking local languages which are Taiyu, a southern Min dialect (nanminhua), or Hakka. Unfortunately, according to a Taiwan local newspaper Taipei Times on 6th November 2012, Taiwan got 9th out of 12 countries in English skills index, (Taipei Times, 2012) this indicates English language is actually not widely spoken in Taiwan, which means most of the people are bad or even not able to speak English properly. So, it is obvious that to study their local languages will bring benefits to a company that about to start their business at Taiwan.
Education
Education system of a country is important too because it indicates a country’s knowledge base, training, and educational opportunities for their citizens. Due to this, it determines a country’s competitive advantage and becomes a determinant of the attractiveness of a country for foreign investors to invest in. Until end of year 2014, it is been reported that their literacy rate of citizens age 15 and above in Taiwan actually reached 98.5%. This means most of the citizens who are 15 years old and above are able to read and write. (The World Factbook) Thus, hiring and promotion their people is not a problem.
