SOP’s are a way to ensure everyone is on the same page when it comes to TTP’s. The military, business, and many more industry’s use them. This author has written many SOP’s while in the military, one in fact was a Sniper SOP that was over one thousand pages long. Without this SOP or others, TTP’s get forgotten and people tend to do whatever they want. When this happens, no one thing is ever on the same page and business, such as ports, are susceptible to everything from insider attacks to cyber-warfare.
Of course, ports have SOP’s for their workers when it comes to daily operations such as guard rotations, lunch breaks, and numerous other tactics for land or sea based attack, but they have none for IT (Information Technology). The ports call there SOP a “port Facilities Security Plan” (Christopher, 2015, p.182). These attacks in recent years have been on foreign soil and had little effect on the United States economy. There has not been an actual attack on a US port since the Boston Tea party nearly 244 years ago. Enen that was a mere political stunt. Perhaps the main argument is that if terrorist or other organizations attack the ports cyber network, it will not just effect one port, it will affect them all. If the ports fall and are out of commission, then so is America. Remember, 95% of Americas imports and exports come through and go out of the ports. If these three TTP’s, along with many other recommendations made by far more qualified people are not heeded, there will be a major attack on the ports in the United States within the next five
