How can you define Rape?
I am writing this paper to clear the air for people who struggle with defining what rape is. Rape is an act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person. But rape takes on different forms that includes date rape, statutory rape, gang rape, spouse rape and etc. Rape affects each victim differently but they still experience the same trauma. This type of exposure causes a person to suffer emotionally, mentally and physically. The aftermath of rape can cause the victims to pick up bad habits and even participate in risky activities.
These bad habits include substance abuse, drug use and risky sexual behaviors. Adopting these behaviors can cause problems in the victim’s intimate relationships and their family/friend relationships. In their intimate relationships any sexual activity related to their traumatic event can cause the victim to have flashbacks. The victim could also become depressed, suicidal, suffer from panic attacks and experience moderate PTSD. In some cases if a person is continuously assaulted that can cause the risky behaviors to worsen and cause server PTSD Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Because their attacker over powered them and took away their sense of control. Regaining or rebuilding their control is a long process for people. Going to see a consoler or a therapist can help individual regain their sense of trust, control and self worth. Self defense classes are also available to women who have been raped. As a precaution for people who may run into their attacker again or simply to help them protect themselves from anyone who tries to over power them. There are also support groups that people can go to get help and see that they are not alone in this
