Abuse can be classified in different categories such as emotional, physical, sexual and neglect. Emotional abuse is referring to a parent and or guardian using behaviors that will impact the child in a negative way. For example, parent who is pleasant with the child and then erupts in anger may cause the child to have anger problems as well. Physical abuse is a parent and or guardian that inflicts physical injury to the child. For example, a parent who erupts in anger and kicks the child is physically abusing the child. Sexual abuse is a parent and or guardian that is touching and or committing sexual advances to a child. An example may be that a teacher touches a girl student’s breast and or genital area. Neglect differs from other classifications of abuse because it is result of the lack of something rather than infliction. Children who have chronic illness will be dependent on medical assistance, medical devices, diets, continuum of treatment and or limited in certain functions. This can affect a child’s development in cognition, social abilities, emotional abilities and physical abilities. For example, the most common chronic illness in the United States of America is Asthma, which is an inflammation of the respiratory system. This leads to a child having dependency on an inhaler, which can keep the child from strenuous physical activities such as sports.
