In this paper, I will examine and critique Mary Anne Warren’s “On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion,” where she examines the moral humanity of the fetus and its right to life, where it is generally permissible. Abortion has been the topic of discussion since the year of 1973 during the time Roe v/s Wade made the decision to abort a fetus. Americans ponder whether aborting a fetus is a moral action. Warren is not trying to deny the first premise. But on the contrary she is allowing for it to be a “self-evident moral truth.” What Warren is trying to cast is that the conclusion for premise one should be allowed and that the second premise is switching the meaning of the term “human being” and the syllogism based on this is a case of ambiguousness. I believe Warren is aiming towards the first premise as a way of saying the first premise is claiming the moral sense of those who are fully fledged members of the moral community. Warren disgust to make her point more clear she distinguishes the different between the fetus having the right to life and the mother having the right to choose how to live her life while it is at risk. Abortion is permissible during the circumstances of protecting the intrinsic worth and value of the person.
Conclusion: In any case of abortion, women have the moral right to decide what to do with their body. With this is to say we want know about the mortality of uncoerced, human abortion. So during certain circumstances the right to abortion is vital for women. Every woman has a right to own their own body, and a fetus is part of the woman’s body. Therefore a pregnant woman has the right to abort the
