The biggest city is the capital, Copenhagen, with a population of 1,246,611. The next largest city in Denmark is Arhus with 259,754; followed by Odense with 172,512 and Alborg with 109,092 (Statistics Denmark, 2014).
One of the main cultural events in Denmark occurs during the daily commute, cycling. Everyday, people in athletic wear, casual wear and even business suits, cycle to work. They even cycle during the winter months! This bicycle tradition has been around for more than a century (Denmark, 2014). With about 80% of the population belonging to The Church of Denmark, their holiday traditions are based off the Christian calendar. New Year, Easter, St John’s Eve, and Christmas are traditions spent with family (Denmark, 2014).

For the past ten or so years, these countries have fascinated me. It is their social system and corporate responsibility that grabs my attention. They use the tax system to pay for schools, higher education, healthcare, paid vacation, parental leave and much more. The thinking in these societies is the opportunities are there for everyone, but it is the individuals responsibility to utilize them to the fullest extent.
My original list consisted of five countries in Northern Europe. I narrowed it down to two countries, Sweden and Denmark. I did some research to try to get to a decision, but to no avail. The countries are somewhat similar in regards to the social systems and corporate responsibility mentioned above. I really have my Lego obsessed, six-year-old son to thank for the final decision. He was watching a short documentary about Legos, so I sat down and watched it with him. During the interview with the Legos CEO, he talked about being a globalized company. So at that point I decided to pick Denmark.
