Referring to Maslow hierarchy needs people should have basic, psychological, and self- fulfilment needs. I agree with Maslow’s theory. I have encountered several people who have dealt with matters involving safety, loneliness, low self-esteem, or not knowing their purpose in life. I believe it is challenging to know your purpose in life if one lacks self-esteem. It is difficult for a person to gain self-esteem if he or she does not feel loved. Meanwhile, one is working on building their own hierarchy needs and dealing with their social issues. Some people have to cope with their sexuality and not receive any support or feel alone. Being that I was exposed to an abundance of things that a child should not be exposed to at an early age, it triggered my passion to help others. Since I was a teenager in middle school, I have always enjoyed helping others. Whether, it was helping my peers with homework or a certain situation within their life. I instantly became interested in mentoring my peers and underclassmen. They gravitated towards me for advice frequently, even though I was in the same age bracket as they were. I developed a passion to help others become successful and improve the dynamics of their families. Once I was in high school I, decided becoming a counselor or social worker was the career field for me. I soon developed a goal and showed an ambition that has not altered. That long term goal is to own my own practice. In order to do so I knew I was obligated to obtain a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in social work. Therefore, I have taken the initiative to overcome the obstacles in my life. As an adult I would like to continue my journey to become a social worker and eventually open my own practice. I will take the necessary steps to open my practice by earning my Florida Social Work License once I obtain my masters. I will then become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I believe Barry University would be the best
