Thinking clearly may seem like a very simple activity, but being able to think clearly involves a great deal of cognitive discipline, that requires an individual to be able to focus on the subject matter that is being analyzed despite distractions. This makes it necessary for an individual that is seeking to become a critical thinker to ignore all of the thoughts that they are having that are not related to this subject matter that is being analyzed. Without having the discipline to be able to quiet the mind and to focus properly, it is very difficult to become an effective and proficient critical thinker. A third important challenge of becoming a critical thinker, is gaining the amount and level of knowledge that is necessary to become an effective critical thinker. This is due to the fact that in order to become a critical thinker an individual must have a vast amount of knowledge from which to draw upon, in order to be able to critically analyze a situation in a manner that will lead to the development of valid rational conclusions.
