Rodwell et al. (2014) do a great job of naturally creating a research framework that stems from this theory as well as creating logical deductions from the theory. An example of this is in hypothesis 3 where they state that “isolating behaviors will be linked directly and indirectly to the health and work outcomes of decreased job satisfaction, increased psychological strain, and increased intentions to quit” (Rodwell et al., 2014, p. 359). This example is consistent with the defined concepts of this theory by deriving from the two types of coping that Rodwell et al. (2014) explains which are emotion-focused vs problem-focused coping. This also relates to a person making either a primary or secondary appraisal of the isolating behaviors and deeming them either irrelevant, benign-positive, or …show more content…
However, Rodwell et al. (2014) explicitly tie the use of this model into the framework of their study and subsequent study design. The discussion of this study’s findings incorporates the appraisal theory into directly linking personal attacks to health-related outcomes as well as personal attacks as work-related stressors that were more personal which in turn, supports the original context of the framework used (Rodwell et al., 2014). In reexamining each of the three hypothesis and the illustration model stemming from the conceptual theory, Rodwell et al. (2014) support the framework set forth using Lazarus and colleagues Theory on Stress, Appraisals, and Coping to the findings of their research.
