After watching this video I realized that there was a conflict theory going on in these "mega slums". One of the biggest resources that is most competed for is water. Water is so scarce and is distributed unevenly throughout the slums of Dharavi. It 's causing many conflicts. The allocation of water resources is also an issue. More water from the dams is going to sugar factories and newly built residential areas compete with golf courses while farmers are losing out on water for crop irrigation. Then you start reading and watching videos. You start thinking that mega slums are problems and that they must be cleared away because there 's something wrong with poor people. You forget that the rich made the poor poorer by lack of development. The video included both negative and positive aspects about what life is really like in Dharavi. The people may not have the best of anything, but their happy making it the way they 've learned to survive and they have a sense of togetherness. Everything they do, they do together. Whether it 's washing clothes, washing dishes, or anything else. It 's all done in communal places or out on the street. Also, it is a thriving community. Its businesses estimated an economic turnover of $500 to $650 million. Eighty five percent of people have a job and some of these industries include electronics, clothing, food, recycling and leather. There 's no cycle of decline, these people are on their way up. There are twenty-one people crammed into a house and they can 't afford daily living essential. There might be rats and filth, but they still sit down to watch television together. This was very eye opening to me because I take a lot of things for granted on a daily basis. Seeing how the people of Dharavi live and they still manage to be happy is a concept hard to grasp especially by today 's
