Behavior is not just something that can be ignored; alternatively, it is something that needs to be observed and then dealt with. Teachers, as a result, tend to have behavioral charts or sticker sheets to manage a child’s behavior. For example, Holly in Mrs. Whisler’s class has a spotlight chart. At the beginning of the day, the learner starts on green, which means he or she has been good. Throughout the day, the student may change to yellow, which means a neutral behavior, or red, which means a bad behavior. Since the chart presents itself within the classroom and most children do not want to receive a punishment, each child is aware of what behavior he or she has to be on all throughout the day. The climate of the classroom, the process of educating, and the child’s behavior all affects the learner’s grade. Dolores Appl and Loraine Spenciner both agree, “Ultimately, by fostering social competence and positive relationships with peers, these future teachers can also help children benefit from more academic areas of learning” (449). To go into more depth, if one provides a positive environment to work and has an average attitude with his or her friends, then his or her grade is likely to have an advantage.
