Consequences may include forgotten priorities, delayed projects, lack of results and outcomes, or incorrect information. Ultimately, this may lead to employees who are complacent or who will mistrust the processes of their organization. It may also lead to high employee turnover, which creates its own set of challenges for an organization. In the field of project management, when an organization is managing an assortment of projects at once, this is referred to as their project portfolio. The portfolio concept can be used in any organization who has multiple facets of their business to manage to realize their overall goals. Payne argues that “the lack of portfolio management leads to poor control and coordination between projects, conflicting objectives, un-met deadlines, resistance to change, and most importantly lack of benefit realization” (as cited in Gardiner, 2015, p. 1718). These are the same consequences any organization may encounter with ineffective communication as well. Connors states, “Without good communication, accountability cannot flourish” (p. 198).
