Currently insurance companies have something that everyone needs and depending on your job or if you have the government insurance you are stuck with what you have. If there was more competition for providers then maybe the insurance providers would offer better rates. When competition is a factor it attempts to appeal to the customer and give you the best deal for your dollar. This approach could be employers not having a set insurer or having all private insurance companies compete for customers.
Utilization controls is a competitive approach as looking at services and how decisions affect managed care (Shi & Singh, 2015). Interventions can be made to cut unnecessary services and make positive changes to benefit the bottom line. The American culture values answers to problems and we are constantly chasing the belief that we will be the first to find the cure or first to have a theory to work for a disease. Another way to manage services is to look at how much funds are taken away from the managed care and given to the department for preventative testing. Curing diseases has been set as a priority instead of looking at preventative measures in regards to healthcare (Shi & Singh, 2015). Funds are being allocated a certain way and the other areas are becoming less funded over time like preventative care.
