Though the song was created in today’s time the song has real meaning portraying the time following the revolution. Thomas Jefferson fought for the people to maintain the right to be able to be happy. I believe we should follow Thomas Jefferson’s intentions and strive to be as happy as can be. In today’s society that simple task is a lot harder than maybe Thomas Jefferson expected it to be. People all over the world are struggling to be happy because everything is pulling them down. There is still hope, and we as the American people should not give up. Being happy will help anyone become an overall better person for themselves, others, and their society. In my oratory I will discuss the issues of unhappiness in the workplace, at home, the mental effects that is has on people, and that if people are happy things will be over all better for everyone. Anything from what’s for dinner to how to do your job, people will forever be stressed out. There is so much stress put on people and they are expected to do so much. I’m not saying that people should never be stressed or that they don’t have valued reasons for being upset. More that we shouldn’t stress the little things and we should look on the bright side. Depression is becoming a growing issue in today’s society and it is crippling. It is a becoming more of a frequently seen mental disorder. Across the entire world it is estimated the 350 million people have some form of depression, according to World Health Organization. Though more white men are experiencing depression it affects everyone from young children to seniors. Although people of all sorts can develop depression it targets those who feel outcasted and are harassed by others because of their race, sexual orientation, or even something as silly as how they choose to dress. I think that’s crazy! Why should someone have their happiness taken away from them over something as silly as what they’re wearing. Isn’t it crazy to think that someone could develop depression from that, well not just once but repeatedly and that’s insane! The amount of people that need therapy to help them get through their rough patches of life and the amount of people who actually talk to a therapist are drastically different amounts.
