The Civil War began at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12, 1861. It all began when the Confederates bombarded the Union soldiers, they had differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states. George Washington was the general and had to take charge of militia units surrounding British forces in Boston, pushing them to abandon the city in March 1776. The long battle lasted for 8 years, 8 months and 26 days. On January 14, 1784 the Treaty of Paris ended the war and recognized the sovereignty of the United States over the territory bounded roughly by what is now Canada to the north, Florida to the south, and the Mississippi River to the west.
Both the American Revolution and the Civil War are similar by the way they were both fought in the United States. They were also both fighting for the rights of citizens. Given that both of the wars took place in the United States it was a major benefit to the soldiers over their enemy. Since we were a democracy the American Revolution was fought because the people’s freedom was restricted and the Civil War was fought because of the usage of slaves in the south.
