Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 were a big portion of the black singers that had appeared on TV or performed in public events. In the beginning of their career with the Jackson 5, they would perform in black clubs because that was the only place they could get a gig. They were signed a music contract with Motown Records. Owner Berry Gorgy Jr., a black man, whose company is largely made up of black artists like the Contours, Funk Brothers, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Supremes, etc. (TheFamousPeople). This shows how a black person helped another black person out and how everyone stuck to what they know. A black man wouldn't get as much publicity as a white man would. Similarly, Selena Quintanilla opened doors for people of a latin background. There was barely any Mexican singers that were popular with the American culture so when Selena had fame with people other than Mexicans, she became big hit. Selena Quintanilla recorded her music with differnt recording companies but the majority were latin based like Capitol Latin, Universcal Music Entertainment, Q-Productions (owned and operated by Abraham Quintanilla Jr. a relative of the Quintanilla family). As I have stated, Michael Jackson's style of music has influenced many hip hop, post disco, and contemporary R&B, and rock artists. His outfits he wore during his concerts and in public was a start of the fashion world by not labeling clothes just for men or just for women but for all; with his sparkly tux-like outfit he put out a message that a man can wear a sparkles and women can wear tux even though it was made for men. With his plastic surgeries, you can see that he added feminine features to his face. He did this because he wanted to be a mixed human so you could see all of the different types of humans there.
