The primary goal is to understand why property crime happens on campuses and tries to develop hypotheses to explain it. The research takes place at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2011 the campus consisted of roughly 17,500 students and the campus has a medical facility that includes several hospitals and clinics. The campus can have about 50,000-70,000 vehicles per day traveling to and from the medical center to the campus. The non-medical side of the campus includes classes, recreational buildings, and housing dorms. The researchers obtained reports of property theft from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Police Department from January 1st, 2007 through December 31st, 2008. Since this research is based on qualitative methods the methodology is different. Before they conducted their research they came up with five different hypotheses. To test these hypotheses, they tested it based on the location of both medical and non-medical buildings and the seasons of the year. They created a code based on the time of the day, the day of the week, and the different seasons of the year. They were able to do this by using a crime map and inserting their different data. The study is done in a longitudinal research design because it was done at different points in time, specifically over two years of data …show more content…
There are several ways you can post a survey whether it is online, in schools, over the phone, or in person. The results are also quick to obtain and you can select which people should participate in it. There are several weaknesses to quantitative research. It can also be bias if the people selected are not randomized or the location of the survey can affect the
