The 21st century has presented new means of enhancing experiences in the classroom with the use of computers, iPads/tablets, smart boards, online education websites, calculators, document cameras, and many more technological advances. Technology gives educators more opportunities to demonstrate information to students. The use of technology is a way to include every type of student, including students with disabilities and students with different learning techniques. The generation of students in today’s society has grown up using devices and resources outside of the classroom. If educators do not allow them to enter the classroom environment in a positive manner, students will simply bring them into the same environment negatively. As a future math teacher, an example would be to decide if all of the teachers in the department are going to allow the use of calculators in their classrooms. If a teacher in one classroom allows the use of them, and the students advance to the next class but this teacher doesn’t allow the use of them, students easily get lost. Not only will the students become confused for that specific class, but it could possibly handicap them in their future math classes. It is important that technology is used, but not depended on, so students should know how to calculate problems with and without the use of a calculator. Nevertheless, teachers should come to an agreement within the unit. Also, it is important for teachers to mentally close the gap between what they think too much technology in the classroom is.
