In looking at my class study form, I there are 23 total students with a distribution of 10 girls and 23 boys. All of the students are Caucasian except for one boy who is of Hispanic origin. Eight students are considered to be in the high range, four students are considered mid-high, seven students are in the middle/average range, and four students are on the lower end of their academic level. Looking at the personal/family column, for me, is probably the most beneficial. This column allows me to get to know the students on a deeper and more personal level. I have learned that three students are from split families, one student eats 100% organic foods, one student has serious separation anxiety in the mornings, one student is a teacher’s kid, a few students have made big improvements on both academic and maturity levels, one little girl has serious truancy problems, and one little girl lives in a family with a poor pro-school culture that dramatically affects her ability to improve in …show more content…
First, as an intern coming into a room as a stranger, especially mid-year, it is hard to get a handle of who the students are in the room personally and academically. It is also hard to know what makes each child stand out. Completing this class study forces me to observe the students more closely and get to know them. It also helps me see the characteristics of students, both the good and the bad. Knowing this information can help shape how I approach different situations and lessons, and the information can also help me begin to learn what is important to students so that they can better connect with various lessons. Additionally, knowing the students’’ academic levels can aid in the scaffolding and differentiated instructions processes for various subjects. Lastly, knowing the students’ academic level as I enter the room, I will then be able to compare with where they are when I leave the classroom. Hopefully with this I will be able to see improvement; which I the most rewarding gift to reactive as an educator.
Overall, I have found this assignment, of a class study, to be very rewarding for many different reasons. First off, the assignment has allowed me to view the class in a statistical way in which I can see the variation in student demographics. I can see the high students, the low, individual strengths, and more. Additionally, and probably more importantly, the class study allows for me to get to know the
