Aussies are some of the worst in the world in regards to it’s sick leave culture. We are however, not alone, in the United Kingdom there is even a National Sickie Day. Celebrated on the 2nd February, this is statistically the day that most sickies are taken across the country.
Although you may feel the need to have the occasional sick day from work just because you want to, there are negatives. Chucking a sickie can impact on your entitlements for when you may genuinely need them and you don’t have enough left without taking time off without pay.

Some of the best excuses to use include: colds or flu (being contagious), gastro or diarrhoea, headaches or migraines and lastly, women’s issues (most male bosses dare not ask what the issue is and most female bosses will sympathise with you).
Some of the worst excuses to use include: pretending there is a family bereavement, claiming a child is off sick, your vehicle has broken down and you are waiting for the recovery vehicle or pretending to have an injury such as a sprained wrist or ankle.
