The origins of the Chinese dragon are unknown. Some have suggested that the Chinese dragon came from totems of many different Chinese tribes. The dragon is thought to have been developed when the tribes merged their totems. It is believed that the first legendary Emperor of China Huangdi used a snake for his coat of arms. Every time he conquered another tribe, he would build their emblem into his own, which might explain why the dragon is made up of various animals. One example of their powers is that they control the rain, rivers, lakes, and sea. Another example they can ward off evil spirits and protect the innocent people in China. They fly in the sky among clouds even though they don’t have wings this is because of the flaming pearl on the dragon's neck. Lots of pictures have Chinese dragons playing with a flaming pearl and legend has it that the pearl gives them their power and allows them to ascend into and out of heaven. These dragons are also associated with luck and wealth and for poor farmers, dragons would bring their crops rain in droughts and hard
