The human brain is split into three parts. They are first, the brain stem, second, the cerebrum, lastly, the cerebral cortex. The brain stems job is to “control reflexes and involuntary processes” for example, things like breathing and heart rate. Its structure is like a “stalk that widens that connects the spiral cord to the upper brain.” The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. This area of the brain is where “high processing” takes place , for example, memory and learning. The cerebrums structure is “behind the brain stem and sits above it.” The cerebral cortex takes on very advanced activities such as “planning and decision making.” It’s structure consists of “1/4 of an inch of thickness” which folds and gives the brain its wrinkled look. As the development of the childs brain begins in its first week of birth it is important that we take hands on and immediate procedures to help strengthen the brain if that child is born with a developmental
