There has been as many as 65,000 cases of the virus in Haiti and so many people do not have access to health care; which will make the numbers grow. In fact, there are more cases in Dominican Republic, which reports that there are 430,000 cases. Infecting people from newborn to the elderly, they are left to hear the moans and cries of people in severe pain. Their health care plans mostly rely on donations from many countries. They are receiving about 6 million treatment kits containing oral rehydration packs, pain relievers, and mosquito spray as aid in controlling the disease. It is encouraged to have insecticide and clothing that did not reveal so much skin. If possible, it is also encouraged to tuck in shirts into pants and pants into socks or shoes. If you are staying the night, it is also recommended to be in air conditioned buildings and have a mosquito net over your bed for good protection. If possible, spray and empty out standing water because water and small puddles are breeding ground for mosquitos; spraying the water could kill possible developing mosquito larvae. If bitten by mosquitos, be aware of your health within the week. If there are possible signs of the chikungunya virus head to your doctor. Treatment for the symptoms is to get plenty of rest and to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
