Sense Hera pulled this stunt, Zeus knew he would have to get revenge on her because no-one messed with the great Greek god of all time. When Hephaestus got word that Zeus was planning revenge on his Hera, he tried to intervene. As a result of intervening, Zeus threw him off Mount Olympus, where he landed on the island of Lemnos. On the island of Lemnos, Hephaestus was cared for by the local Sintian tribe. On the island, Hephaestus learned how to be a great craftsman and set up his forge upon the island. “It isn’t easy being a brilliant inventor, always alone. Always misunderstood” (Riordan 1). Soon he was making beautiful jewelry, including pieces for his parents Thetis and Eurynome. “Hephaestus became the best jewelry maker in all the land”(Galvin 36). During Hephaestus duration on the island, he was plotting his revenge against Zeus. As a disguise, Hephaestus crafted a elaborate golden throne that he transported to Mount Olympus as a bribe. As soon as Hera sat down on the throne, the chair swallowed her up and she was not able to get up. Sense Hephaestus created the throne, he was the only who knew how to get Hera out of the throne. He was born lame, not even wanted by his own mother. On top of being lame, Hephaestus was said to be ugly. This was not common for a Greek god because most of them had a built physic and a good looking appearance. Zeus was so embarrassed by his appearance so he set him up with the most beautiful goddess in the land, Aphrodite. As Hephaestus got older, he was shunned by the other gods, so he buried himself in his work and finally found ways to gain respect on his own by mastering his traits. As time went on, Hephaestus realized that the gods were no longer the advanced beings they once were, Hephaestus started giving humans guidance to divinity. He started teaching the humans the nature of the flame, and this helped them stand up to some of the Greek gods. The gods eventually found out that Hephaestus was helping the humans stand up to the gods, but he was not severely punished because his father was the mighty Zeus. Hephaestus also lost respect from the gods because his brother was far superior to him. His brother Ares, was the god of war and had all the features a Greek god should have. Living in his brother’s shadow gave Hephaestus all the more reason to master his traits. Hephaestus was often considered a loner and an introvert because he usually prefers to spend his time alone and away from his family.
